We are responsible for making the future of work more sustainable

We want to prevent our actions from generating subsequent costs for society.
This is how we do it.

Our plan for a sustainable new universe of work

We own the responsibility

We take action by limiting to as few adverse effects as possible and maximizing our positive impact on the world we live in to create a more sustainable world.

Focus on pressing issues

We are aware that our products and business can impact the world we live in, and we are beginning our sustainability work by focusing on the most pressing issues.

Sustainability in practice

Energy efficiency

Nooka Cube Timberframe has been designed and built based on Nearly Zero Energy Building principles. By using these principles, we have reduced carbon dioxide emissions to a minimum while maximum comfort conditions.

Nooka Cube Timberframe has been designed and built based on Nearly Zero Energy Building principles. By using these principles, we have reduced carbon dioxide emissions to a minimum while maximum comfort conditions.

LED lights in use and adjustable light features from the application, stand-bye mode available to maximize energy efficiency, and heat recovery ventilation systems are linked to presence sensors for maximum energy efficiency in standby mode.

Materials used in our Nooka Cube Timberframe are energy-efficient, while 70% of the total volume of materials used in our product is sustainable.

Waste management

An ongoing concern for our company was minimizing the volume and type of waste during the construction and operation of our pods.

Consequently, new waste management solutions are in place, and there is virtually no waste from building activities. Our pods need a DYI type of assembly from ready-made components, are highly modular in construction, and are easily assembled. By this, they do not generate any waste from construction.

Materials from our pods can be recycled and reused in a large proportion. We continue to innovate through a “no waste bin policy” in our office pods to minimize waste, reduce costs, and encourage better recycling.

Health and safety

Nooka is designed to have zero human interactions for accessing it with the mobile app, with smart scheduling, smart booking, and mobile in-app payment.

Additionally, our design and engineering team put constant effort into finding and testing anti-microbial fabrics for the upholstered furniture as seats and sofas. The materials used inside the pods, on the floor, and on walls are anti-microbial, durable, stain-resistant, and bleach cleanable.

Our in-house developed app for the usage of Nooka office booths – offers easy to update solutions that further support our sustainability work: in-app booking and payment, light adjustment, ventilation solutions, and built-in customer support.

Circular economy

We have developed several business models, such as renting and location partners (shared-revenue), intending to keep resources like products, materials, and energy in use for as long as possible through reuse and recycling.

Through this action, we extend the life of our products, known as the circular economy. We can refurbish or upgrade one of our products after it has been used by one of our customers and then relocate it to another customer.

To promote multiple product life cycles, we have invested efforts in durable, high-quality materials, energy & material efficiency, and safety. To support this concept, we further developed an innovative maintenance system with parts that are readily available and easy to replace, promoting a long lifespan of our products.

Further, our customers that bought our office pods for private use can later opt to share the space with Nooka users (called Nooksters) from their area. By doing so, they can benefit from a supplementary source of income and contribute to others’ sustainable goals by offering proximity offices for their work and helping them ditch commute. Several customers can use the same pod and save valuable resources.

We aim to deliver many of our products through our circular economy business models as renting and shared revenue.

We produce Nooka office booths from lasting, durable, high-quality materials that enable heavy use. These materials permit us the relocation & reuse of the same pod in different partnerships, thus supporting multiple product lifecycles in a circular economy. Product design makes constant efforts to provide easy maintenance – spare parts and easy replacing instructions are made available.

Building for sustainable cities

By being identified as a tool for attaining sustainability goals, we are energized to develop further and enhance our environmental goal strategy and identify other opportunities for improvement for meaningful change.

We need to have a clear understanding of our footprint baseline to track and further improve.

We are committed to choosing partners with industry-leading sustainability and constantly optimizing our supply chain and partnerships. Constantly optimizing our supply chain and partnerships represent one of the most significant opportunities to escalate a positive impact on the world.

Further develop products that contribute to reaching sustainability goals of individuals, communities, and municipalities. We’ve learned from our clients that our products can be used as tools in meeting their sustainability goals: by integrating a network of proximity offices in cities’ urban development, our products decrease the need for the commute; thus, traffic and pollution and consequently, reduce greenhouse gas emissions of cities.

We aim to contribute as much as possible in the future to the cities’ ambitions of net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases. By cutting local pollution from transport we support improving urban air quality and the health of city dwellers. Suppose Nooka helps to reduce the carbon footprint of people commuting to their offices. In that case, all future commuting that is avoided from this point onwards may be regarded as being carbon negative, ultimately meaning that our proximity offices are responsible for producing a positive carbon handprint rather than a negative carbon footprint. Furthermore, the energy required to power a larger and infrequently used meeting room does not constitute optimal energy efficiency. In contrast, our workspaces consume very little electricity when in standby mode.

Optimizing our Carbon Footprint

The Nooka Cube office currently emits 1395 kg of C02 per year,
down 450 kg, compared to the same product 12 months ago.

Our active process of optimizing our carbon footprint resulted in a sustainability component reduced by 450 kg/year for the C02 emissions and a reduction in electricity consumption by 1500 kWh/year.

Our impact on
Sustainable Development Goals

We aim to make measurable progress toward UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) associated with natural resource stewardship, social fairness, and sustainable production and consumption. By setting forth rigorous parameters for product sustainability across the product life cycle, from ingredient materials to material reuse, the standard provides a transformative framework for designing and making products in a manner that helps to address many SDGs.

We have identified the following Sustainable Development Goals to which our business model contributes the most: Goals 9 – Target 9.4; Goal 11 – Targets 11.3 and 11.6 and Goal 12, target 12.5

Goal 9

Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Goal 11

Sustainable cities and communities

Goal 12

Responsible consumption and production

Target 9.4 Upgrade all industries and infrastructures for sustainability – The Role of Technology on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure Development. Technologies can play a central role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A critical component of economic growth and development is the investment in infrastructure and innovation. It is estimated that over half of the world’s population lives in cities, making infrastructure development and innovation in mass transport and renewable energy very critical;

Target 11.3 Enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacity for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management in all countries;

Target 11.6 Reduce the environmental impacts of cities” and “Reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including paying special attention to air quality and municipal and other waste management;

Target 12.5 Substantially reduce waste generation.

Additionally, we further understand, innovate, and ultimately impact critical work-life challenges, including occupational health and safety issues and workplace mental and physical well-being – SDG 3 and 8.

Monitor and further progress on our sustainability goals

Next steps – Further develop our detailed sustainability agenda: in a field that is evolving daily, we are constantly learning about different facets of climate change. One way of testing our products and evaluating solutions is to become even more climate-friendly.
